Information and Analysis
Ono calls attention to the plight of women worldwide. She advocated for peace
towards women by exposing the harm done to them and solicits contributions, asking women to send her photos of their eyes as “testaments of harm” that have been done to them solely for being female (The Art Story, 2018). As another one of her feminist pieces, Ono's decision to focus on the victims' eyes could be an intentional act as eyes are often called the "windows to the soul". By looking someone in the eye, one might be able to see their inner thoughts and deepest secrets. Ono took the unusual, shocking or scandalous stories and they were all displayed for the viewers to see. The use of clips and a clothesline seem to be adhering to the "air your dirty laundry" saying, which refers to when one talks about their private matters to the public (Collins, 2018). This could refer to as the stories the women tell could be usually seen as "distasteful" or people generally tend to ignore their issues. Ono took those issues and put them right there for everyone to see. Inspiring people to change their mindset to talk more about the harm that women have to go through, regardless of race or age.
